RESPECT FOR TERROIR AND NATURE

Return to the viticulture and vineyard procedures that has been practiced for centuries in Mallorca based in respect for the vines and understanding of nature

VITICULTURE & TERROIR

BIODIVERSITY

Our forests of 50 hectares of pine and holm oak provide the necessary biodiversity that a
vineyard needs. Bats that control insects, nettles for our biodynamic preparations or our
donkeys excrements are some of the resources that we will use for our viticulture.

TERROIR

The vineyard and the winery are located in the region El Pla de Mallorca at 265 meters
above the sea level over a slope and this unique location provides us with a unique
microclimate in Mallorca, enhanced by the constant sea breezes known as ’embat’.

MAJORCAN GRAPES

The winery is focussed in the local grapes of Mallorca and therefore our vineyard is mostly planted with them: Giró Rós, Prensal blanc, Gorgollassa, Callet and Manto negro.

“Only by truly understanding the grape varieties, the soil structures and the micro climate in
a vineyard can one obtain a proper result.”

HEIGHT

Our vineyard is planted in a slide slope over a plateau at 265 meters over the sea level, at
the feet of the mountain of Randa. From this height we have a clear view of the entire island
of Mallorca and the Serra de Tramuntana.

MARINE BREEZES

From May until October the island of Mallorca has the called “embat breezes”, which define
our climate on the vineyard, making our days warm and our nights the coldest on the island.
This has a huge impact on the fruit enhancing the freshness because of this difference
between night and days. As we are on a small hill air is always blowing in our vineyard
which is a key factor for keeping the humidity levels controlled, which is very important in
viticulture.

SOILS

The soils have a huge impact in our terroir. Our vineyard is planted over drainy soils, which
are composed by three layers. A first and superficial hummus layer (0-60 cm deep), a
second layer composed by carcaric-argiles materials with a marine origin, which gives our
wines saline notes (60cm-150cm deep) and a third layer composed by very old ancient soils
with red argiles, which retain the humidity very well. These three layers define the three most
common soils on the island of Mallorca, and definite our vineyard.

A PRIVILEGED LOCATION

Oliver Moragues - Grand House & Wineyard Since 1511

A vineyard expresses itself best under favorable conditions, but if the conditions are extraordinary, the result is miraculous. For this reason, we will always be grateful to those who decided to plant the first vines on this land of Mallorca.
